State DOTs Using DTIs
Within the USA, most bridges are constructed by the State Government's Department of Transportation. State "DOT'S", as they are called, write specifications which control many facets of the construction process and the materials used. Currently more than a third of all State DOT's require DTI's be used as the only bolt tightening method on some or all of their structures. Other states allow DTIs to be selected if the contractor wants to use them. SQUIRTER® DTIs are increasingly being selected by contractors even when regular DTIs are not specified.
When asked why they prefer DTI's, they tell us it's because of the ease of inspection and the certainty of correct bolt tension. DTI's are independent of torque resistance. DTI's are easier to inspect than any other bolt tightening method, and installers are more certain of getting the right bolt tension.
Squirter® DTIs "acceptable" for use by the State of Utah Dept of Transportation.
