You can't get much more special than this. A major aerospace contractor requested Applied Bolting to develop, procure, and certify special bolt sets consisting of a 1 1/2" diameter ASTM A490 bolt, compatible nut, special load resistance DTI, and special ASTM F436 flat washers with non-standard ID, all clipped for assembly in a close clearance connection. The requested bolt tension was 145 kips, also non-standard. The coating on all this hardware was supplied as dacromet 320 with a teflon finish for easy field assembly.

The DTI's were made and certified for tightening against the nut by turning the bolt head because this was the only way the contractor could do it in the field.

DTI's used on 1 1/2" A490 dacromet coated bolts are used in the frangible boxes which hold the Delta 4 Heavy Lift Vehicle to the launch platform.
