Squirter® DTI FAQs
Squirter® DTI rotates
SQUIRTER® DTIs, installed on the turned end of the bolt, is our recommended procedure, simply because the squirt event can be observed by the wrench operator. The DTI in this location must be separated from the turning element (nut or bolt head) by a hardened flat ASTM F436 washer. Normally, the hard flat washer does not rotate after the bolt begins to take up some tension, and therefore the DTI under it also does not rotate.
If, however, rotation of the flat washer and DTI does not stop, the squirt event cannot correctly occur. To stop the rotation, lubricate the flat washer, on both sides of it, thereby reducing the friction which is dragging the washers around. In certain situations, excessive grease under the DTI will also aggravate a tendency for the DTI and flat washer to spin, and must be removed.
