Standard DTI FAQs
Can DTI's be installed from one side, with only one man?
Yes. Simply put the DTI on the nut end, separated from the nut by a hard flat washer, snug, then tighten the bolt to proper tension while making sure the flat washer does not spin on top of the DTI grinding it down. If the bolt assembly spins a little before "sucking up" and stopping, it really doesn't matter because AS LONG AS THE DTI IS COMPRESSED the bolt will have been TENSIONED correctly. Note: With oversized holes and A490 bolts 1 1/4" in diameter and over, this may not be possible because of flat washer ID tolerance problems. Check the advisory on this website and inspection procedure - verification test.
Install DTI's Under the Nut (and turning the nut to tighten the bolt):
- Don't hold the roll.
- Just snug, then compress the bumps.
- Inspect to half or fewer entries of .005" feeler gage.
- Advisory: 1 1/4" A490 bolts in oversized holes
- Advisory: Using Nut End Installation with 1 1/4" diameter or Larger DTI's

Just make sure the nut bearing against the DTI bumps is restrained from rotating, and it will correctly compress the DTI bumps.
