There are epoxy coatings applied over a zinc substrate, and there is a coating called dacromet (Dacromet web site), which is one type of thin zinc/aluminum or zinc/tin bimetallic coatings used for superior corrosion resistance. Call for specific advice. back to FAQ Index
Corrosion Protection
DTI's should be coated in the same way as the bolts. If the bolts are uncoated, or "black", the DTI's normally used should also be black. If the bolts, nuts, and flat washers are galavanized, then the DTI's should be galvanized.
Caution: It is not allowed to galvanize DTI's by hot dipping them in a molten bath of zinc because the high temperature of the zinc bath might affect the DTI's performance. DTI's will be galvanized by the cold mechanical process only.
Other coatings such as Dacrotizing and Epoxy are also available. back to FAQ Index

You have ASTM A490 bolts and ASTM F595 DTI's made to the compatible A490

You have plain finish DTI's (that is, without any coating), and you are
contemplating sending them out to be galvanized. Is this OK?
