DTI's, Broken Bolts, and Long Impacting
DTI's are very "stupid", as we say, because they only know enough to compress when the bolt TENSION is adequate. This can occur at high torque, low torque, or something in between. If a bolt installer complains that they "... take longer to tighten bolts with DTI's ...", or they "... break more bolts when they use DTI's ...", it is a sign they probably seldom correctly tensioned or tightened bolts before they started placing DTI's on them.
