All bolts in bridges must be designed as slip-critical, and therefore must never allow slip at service loads. DTI’s give 100% assurance that every bolt has been tensioned correctly.

OEM designers, often using SAE J429 bolts, have historically used torque specifications in an attempt to indirectly control clamping force.
